Grooming your dog at home between professional appointments is a great way to keep them looking and feeling their best. Here are some tips to help you with the process:
Brush & Comb:
There’s a range of different options to choose from, but it’s important to find a brush that’s right for your dog’s coat. Slicker brushes are great for smoothening out most coat types. Compared to de-shedding tools, which are better for breeds with a thick undercoat.
Nail Clippers:
Keeping your dog’s nails trimmed will not only reduce them from scratching the floors but also prevent them from splitting, breaking, or getting caught on surfaces and causing injuries and infections. There are a few different types on the market. Choose a pair of clippers that are comfortable to use to ensure that it’s a quick and easy process for you and your dog.
Bath Time:
How frequently a pet needs a bath greatly depends on their breed, lifestyle, and hair length. For medium to long-coat dogs, a bath every 4-6 weeks should keep them smelling fresh. Short-haired dogs can go anywhere between every month and every three months. You want to make sure you’re not washing your dog's coat too much, as it can strip oil from their skin.
